The Fifth Toy Story Film Trailer Sets Woody and Buzz Against a Tablet Computer

Exactly 30 anniversary after the original Toy Story movie was released, launching Pixar as a major animation studio and bringing viewers to iconic figures like Woody (the actor) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.

In 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed this week, offering a brief look into the storyline but leaving viewers wondering how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Spooks the Toys

In the teaser reveals Bonnie — who received Andy's toys when he left for college — getting a latest toy, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie gets her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.

Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the toys seem to view it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it probably is.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

An element the teaser avoids is why Woody is returned with his companions in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), journeying with a carnival and helping prize toys find good homes.

Certainly, the filmmakers will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him show up in Bonnie's room without warning is a little strange, however. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have come back with Woody. And where is Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?

Connections from the Previous Film

At the very least, some elements are continuing from the prior film. The final act the cowboy did before departing for his fresh path was pass his symbol of authority to Jessie (the voice actor), leaving her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip displays the badge pinned to her outfit.

Hopefully she is still the driving force among the toys.

Toy Story 5 debuts on the scheduled date.
