Catherine's Yearly Festive Carol Concert Spotlights Charity Helpers

The Princess of Wales is hosting her yearly Yuletide celebration at the iconic London venue, with a congregation comprising dignitaries, stars, and everyday helpers who have made a difference in their neighbourhoods.

The 1,600 guests will hear a mix of festive songs, musical performances, and spoken word pieces from actors such as award-winning actors.

Centred Around Kindness and Compassion

The central message of the event, held in the glowing Westminster Abbey on the afternoon, is kindness and showing love to others.

Among the guests will be Anna and Jonathan Cordiner, whose young girl was lost to a brain cancer, and who founded an organisation, a charity called Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to aid parents with a terminally ill child.

"The dedication, empathy, and kindness you show, often quietly and unspoken, and without any hope for reward or acknowledgement, make an remarkable change to the well-being of people," Her Royal Highness stated in a message before the concert.

A Gradual Return

The royal has been undertaking her own gradual return to official duties following her health challenges and treatment, in November making her initial major address in two years, in which she talked about recognising the "selfless, commonly overlooked efforts of carers".

Music and Opportunity

Guests arriving at the Abbey will be entertained by young musicians supported by the Future Talent organisation, co-founded by the former royal to increase availability of instrumental training.

Trumpeter Carys Wood, 18, who plays the trumpet and is from southwest Wales, has been supported by the trust, with funding assisting with instruments, tuition, and transportation expenses - and she said it was "awesome" to be playing at the concert.

"Music can be very expensive," Carys said. She is now enrolled at the renowned conservatoire, and added that "each individual ought to be given the possibility" to hone their artistic talents.

A Sisterly Duo

Carys's 11-year-old sister, Eliza, who plays the euphonium, will also be at the Abbey. "I never imagined I would perform in front of so many distinguished guests," she said.

Among the guests will be individuals spanning multiple eras.

That will include young Saphia Turner, nine, honouree of a prize for youthful altruism, who creates and sells art and completes fundraising tasks to raise money for community pantries.

Yuletide Atmosphere and Acts

The Abbey has been decorated with handcrafted festive wreaths, with TV cook Mary Berry and florist Simon Lycett contributing to their design.

Taking to the stage will be singer Katie Melua, the Westminster Abbey choristers and a Cornish sea shanty group, the group Fisherman's Friends, who said the invitation to sing was "the icing on the cake for us."

The festive event titled 'Together at Christmas' will be broadcast on a major network on Christmas Eve.
